At UberJobs, we strongly believe in simplification. Hence, this is why our website is designed to be as simple as possible -- making it easy for our users to post their ads.
When we created UberJobs, we started out with two tabs: Jobs and Resumes. Later on, partially as an experiment, and partially because of demand, we expanded out to five tabs: Jobs, Resumes, Volunteer, Work At Home, and Services. Our software seemed suited for the volunteer and service markets, and we were seeing a lot of “Work at Home” jobs as well.
Over the past week, however, we have removed those additional three tabs from our website. In essence, we are going back to basics. Here are the reasons why we removed those tabs:
- Volunteer: Not enough people were posting volunteer jobs. This market is clearly being served well enough by other free websites.
- Services: We found a lot of people were getting confused and posting job ads in the Services section. And when they do that, their jobs are not picked up by vertical job search engines. We wanted to eliminate this confusion and make the site simpler.
- Work at Home: This section has been the source of much frustration, to say the least. We, here at UberJobs, no longer believe in “Work at Home” jobs. From our experience, 95% of them are job scams. As a general policy, we remove as many as we can from our sites now.
As a result, we hope these changes will make the website easier to use. Thank you for your continued support!

You may have already noticed, but UberJobs got a facelift. We have added a few new tabs, changed some colors, fixed a lot of bugs, and made the site a whole lot faster.
The most important changes were the tabs. The first three tabs are all jobs: "Jobs", "Work At Home", and "Volunteer". We have noticed the "Work At Home" industry is becoming big all over the world and so we decided to give it a separate section. It also made sense to add Volunteer jobs to the site as the volunteering community does not seem to be well served in the marketplace. For those looking for something to do while hunting for a paid job, why not peruse the volunteer section? It never hurts to gain more experience and build up your network of contacts.
The Services tab was the last addition. If you have a service for hire, or a small business, you can market it here. Think of it as a free yellow pages.
We hope you enjoy the new site and we look forward to your feedback.

Our mission has always been to provide a safe platform for employers to connect with jobseekers. For the most part, we are living up to our own expectations - UberJobs is growing by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, with every successful application, there are always those unscrupulous people who try to abuse the system. And we have had our share.
Yesterday we removed over 50 job postings from our network. Those jobs had titles such as "Work at Home Typist" and "Work at Home/Data Entry". The job descriptions sounded great offering people easy money working from their home computer. However, before starting the job, you had to pay $7.00 for training materials. Needless to say, those were scams. After you paid your fees, you never heard from the employer again.
We sincerely apologize if any of you have lost money. Please contact PayPal or the money transfer service you used and report the crime immediately. This is fraud and the perpetrators must be punished.
At UberJobs, we are doing our best to filter out these scams, but at times it can be difficult. Con artists are becoming better and better every day at deceiving the public. This is precisely why you, the job applicant, must always be on guard as well. Anytime an employer asks you for money, it is a scam. Never ever send money for any reason! Instead, notify the proper authorities right away - and notify us as well.
UberJobs will be releasing a new version of the website soon. There we have added a feature for the community - you - to flag suspicious job postings. Hopefully, with everybody's help, we will keep UberJobs a safe marketplace for legitimate jobs.
Meanwhile, we have added more information about job scams in our help section. Please read!

One year after Indeed launched its pay-per-click job advertising network, SimplyHired has announced their version called Job-a-matic.
The idea is quite simple. There are millions of niche blogs and community sites with, for a lack of a better term, "niche members". These members have expertise specific to their field or niche. Therefore it makes sense to advertise relevant jobs to them while they are hanging out at their favorite niche sites. The site owner, in turn, makes money from ad clicks. Everybody wins.
SimplyHired and Indeed are (obviously) trying to do to jobs what Google has done to search and advertising. We find that fascinating. If they have even a fraction of the success Google has enjoyed, they will make tons of money. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. More important, of course, is whether employers will find the talent they are looking for.

Cheezhead recently reported that Monster has increased their prices. A single job posting went up 20% from $395 to $475. Their bulk pricing had similar increases as well. Apparently costs for searching their resume database also went up. For one person to have access to their resumes for year will now cost you $7,500! We know Workopolis has similar rates.
Old Monster prices:
New Monster prices:
These [outrageous] prices are why the project of UberJobs was started in the first place. We were all small business owners tired of paying $600+ to post a job on the Internet. That is why we started this company. We think it's great that Monster and Workopolis have clients that are willing to pay those prices, but for those who can't afford it, or those who don't want to pay, there is now an alternative: UberJobs.com.
Small companies are often long on talent and short on cash. It makes little sense to pay $600 to post on a big board like Monster which guarantees tons of applications, but not necessarily any qualified applicants. And if you don't hire anyone, you are out $600 bucks. At UberJobs, we are doing things differently. Our website is 100% free and always will be. We know it's hard enough to find talented employees, and so we are making it our mission to provide you the best job board on the planet. The only way to do that is to make it free.
Why? Because we believe if you have a job site that charges x amount of dollars per posting, some employers will simply not post. That in turn is doing a disservice to your job seekers, to your community. It makes no difference to a job seeker whether a job ad was paid for or not. But what makes a difference to the job seeker is the quality of service and variety of jobs available. The minute you start charging, you lose out on a segment of the employer population. And that is not variety.
At UberJobs, we want to build a community for ALL job seekers and employers. Whether you are a big company or small, cash rich or not, you can post here. Even so, we know there is still a lot of work to be done to make it easier for job seekers and employers to connect. And we are up to that challenge.

Our customers say one of the biggest pet peeves with most job sites today is that they don't support uploading of Microsoft Word documents. After spending hours typing and nicely formatting your Microsoft Word documents, the last thing you want is to redo it again. Well now you don't have to.
UberJobs.com is proud to be the first free job site in the world to provide Microsoft Word uploading capabilities. That's right, instead of typing, or copying & pasting, you can now simply upload your existing Microsoft Word files right into your job or resume description! Go ahead, give it a try...upload ALL your jobs and resumes today (free of course).

On November 13, 2006, we launched UberJobs.com. To begin, we are totally free. Say goodbye to paying $600 to post a job ad. Say goodbye to multi-thousand dollar annual subscriptions for searching resumes. Say hello to UberJobs.
Do you need to hire software developers in Vancouver? Or are you looking for management consulting work in Ottawa? Or perhaps you just need to hire someone to rake leaves? Or maybe this Christmas you want to earn some extra cash doing odd jobs . We can help. UberJobs is the employment marketplace for everyone - professionals, head hunters, big business, small enterprises, and the average Joe.
If you are curious like me, you have probably wondered: what jobs are in demand? Or perhaps: what are the highest-paying jobs in your city? Since we have local sites for all major cities (in Canada, for now), we provide trends to help you with your employment needs.
Not only that, but we provide stats per job as well. If you post a job, you will have access to information like how many people viewed your job, where they are from, etc. Same goes with resumes.
We’re just getting started, so forgive us if we don’t have your city or favorite feature yet; we’ll be adding more and more every day. Give it a whirl and give us your feedback .
